In August 2024, a Jewish customer at a Currys store in Hemel Hempstead complained about a staff member displaying a Palestinian flag badge used to signal Arabic-language capability and was reported to have been ejected from the store after photographing the badge 131415. On or around 8 February 2025, an Israeli national visiting a Currys store in Cambridge declined service from a staff member wearing such a badge; a store manager then instructed other staff not to serve the customer for being “rude,” causing the customer to leave and purchase a £1,500 television elsewhere 1415.

UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) wrote to Currys citing a potential breach of the Equality Act 2010 on the basis that the badge policy created “a hostile and intimidating atmosphere for Jewish and Israeli customers” 14. Currys responded by discontinuing all national flags from staff name badges, committing to explore alternative language-signalling methods, and issuing an apology 13141516. This incident is a workplace policy and customer-relations matter and does not constitute Military evidence; it is recorded here as the only documented Israel-related corporate act identified for Currys plc.

Controlling Principal Assessment: Lord Ian Livingston (Baron Livingston of Parkhead)

Lord Livingston served as Deputy Chairman of Dixons Carphone plc from 2015 1718 and as Chairman from approximately 2017 through 8 September 2022, when Currys plc publicly announced the appointment of Ian Dyson as his successor 1920.

Lord Livingston carries a well-documented pro-Israel public profile that predates and runs concurrent with his Currys chairmanship. At the time of his December 2013 appointment as Minister of State for Trade and Investment, he was described as the “most outspoken supporter of Israel” in UK government, was quoted calling Israel “the most amazing state in the world,” and publicly stated opposition to the BDS movement 2122. In 2014, while serving as trade minister - approximately three years prior to his assuming the Dixons Carphone chairmanship - Lord Livingston led a 20-member UK trade delegation to Israel alongside Prime Minister David Cameron, securing investment commitments that included a £12 million Teva pharmaceutical investment in the UK 2217.

Upon leaving ministerial office in 2015, Lord Livingston received ACOBA approval for five commercial appointments: Livingbridge (advisory board), Man Group (Non-Executive Director/Chairman), Dixons Carphone plc (Deputy Chairman), Belmond Ltd (Non-Executive Director), and Jewish Care (Non-Executive Director, unpaid) 17. None of these entities operates in the defence or arms sector 17.

Search results indicate that Lord Livingston declared visits to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory in 2022 and 2023 in his Register of Lords’ Interests, with costs met in part by Elnet UK and Chatham House 23.
