Supply Chain & Sourcing Relationships
Scope note. River Island Clothing Co. Limited is a privately owned London fashion retailer owned by the Lewis family through Lewis Trust Group, so the fresh-produce questions in this section are largely inapplicable to the target itself. 1
Direct supplier relationships. No public evidence identified of any commercial relationship between River Island and Israeli agricultural aggregators or exporters such as Mehadrin, Hadiklaim, Galilee Export or Agrexco successors; the company’s sustainability principles page discusses a Tier 1 factory list and audits, not food sourcing. 2
Apparel supplier base. River Island’s sustainability principles page links a “Tier 1 Supplier List” described as a 2021 factory list, and reports 342 factory audits and 257 ethical site visits in 2021 2. The page contains no mention of Israel or occupied territories. 2
Importer of record structure. No public evidence identified of a River Island importer-of-record entity, joint venture or import subsidiary for goods originating in Israel or the occupied territories. 3
Seasonal sourcing patterns. No public evidence identified of recurring seasonal procurement from Israeli suppliers. 2
Third-party and indirect sourcing. River Island lists international wholesale and franchise partners as Alshaya, Namshi and Zalando, and wholesale partners including The Bay, Nordstrom, Next, Very and ASOS; the page does not mention Israel 1. No public evidence identified of Israeli-origin goods reaching River Island shelves through distributors or white-label arrangements. 1
Product Origin, Labeling & Regulatory Compliance
Settlement-origin products. No public evidence identified of NGO findings, DEFRA or customs findings, or regulatory citations tying River Island products to the West Bank, Jordan Valley or Golan Heights; a UN-level report on the economy of occupation and genocide was covered by the press as naming arms, technology, shipping, energy, travel-platform, banking and insurance firms, and the coverage identified no fashion retailer. 1
Labeling compliance. No public evidence identified of any enforcement action or government advisory about River Island and settlement-produced goods labelling. 2
Corporate labeling and sourcing policy. River Island’s published principles page sets out commitments on supply-chain transparency and partnerships with the Ethical Trade Initiative, Fast Forward and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, and contains no policy on goods from occupied or contested territories 2. No public evidence identified of a corporate policy on settlement-origin goods. 2
Civil-society allegations. A June 2025 Substack post by David Miller (Tracking Power) calls for a boycott and alleges the Lewis family “bankroll genocide”, but the excerpt retrieved cites no documents and names no specific transactions 4. It is an advocacy post and is treated as an unsupported allegation. 4
Specialist database check. A Who Profits company-search results page for “isrotel” showed 20 unrelated entries on its first page, and neither Isrotel nor River Island appeared on the page read; later result pages were not read, so this is weak evidence of absence only. 5
Investment, Capital & Financial Exposure
Direct investment by River Island in Israel. No public evidence identified that River Island Clothing Co. Limited has made acquisitions, built factories, data centres, logistics hubs or held real estate in Israel or the occupied territories; the officers register and the other pages reviewed show UK directors and a UK registered address. 3
R&D and innovation centres. No public evidence identified of a River Island R&D centre, innovation lab or accelerator in Israel; its technology hub is described as being in East London (Shoreditch). 1
Ownership map (UK side). River Island Holdings Limited (registration 09337472) was notified on 10 July 2020 as holding 75% or more of the shares and voting rights of River Island Clothing Limited (12735727), with the right to appoint or remove directors. 6 River Island Holdings Limited is also the parent undertaking of River Island’s Irish operating company. 7 Lewis Trust Group is described as the parent company of River Island in a March 2019 FashionUnited report. 8 Lewis Trust Group Limited (00758492) was incorporated on 23 April 1963, is active, has a London registered office and SIC code 70100, and its last accounts were made up to 31 December 2025. 9 Powerbase records L51N Limited (06791528) as the single person with significant control of Lewis Trust Group Limited 10; Companies House shows L51N Limited as an active head-office company incorporated on 14 January 2009. 11
Beneficial ownership above L51N (unverified). Advocacy blog posts allege that L51N is owned by LFH International, registered in the Cayman Islands, citing the ICIJ Luxembourg Leaks; no ICIJ or Cayman registry document was retrieved, so this chain is not independently established. 12 The Powerbase page on Lewis Trust Group does not mention LFH International. 10 The Globes report of the Isrotel stock-exchange notice names “the Lewis family” as the controlling shareholder and does not name a holding vehicle. 13
Controlling-principal and group exposure: Isrotel Ltd (Israel, TASE: ISRO). Globes reported on 29 June 2025, citing an Isrotel notice to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, that the Lewis family, described as Isrotel’s controlling shareholder, sold 2.4 million shares (a 4.4% stake) at NIS 88.30 per share, about NIS 210 million, cutting its holding from 74% to 69.6%. 13 A republication of the same Globes article states that the discount was 7% to the opening market price and that the buyer was not named. 14 The same article gives Isrotel’s market capitalisation as NIS 5.6 billion, Q1 2025 revenue of NIS 368 million and says the family first sold Isrotel shares in February 2024. 13 Globes also described Isrotel as controlled by the Lewis family in articles dated 20 October 2021 and 12 December 2010. 15, 16 A 2013 Canadian Jewish News article put Lewis family ownership of Isrotel at about 87%, with the rest traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange [pre-2020]. 17
Founding of Isrotel and the King Solomon Hotel (opening year unresolved). The sources opened give three different opening years for the Isrotel King Solomon Hotel in Eilat: The Jewish Chronicle’s obituary of David Lewis, dated 9 August 2011, says he opened it in 1980 [pre-2020], and Wikipedia repeats 1980 citing that obituary 18, 19; the Canadian Jewish News (15 April 2013) says David Lewis built the King Solomon Palace in Eilat in 1981 and does not call it the chain’s first [pre-2020] 17; Globes’ obituary of 9 August 2011 says that in July 1984 Lewis opened his first hotel in Eilat, King Solomon’s Palace, now the Isrotel King Solomon Hotel [pre-2020]. 20 The same Globes obituary records that in 1980 the then Tourism Minister met Lewis to persuade him to immigrate and invest in Israel, and says he set up a foundation to rehabilitate wounded Israeli soldiers after the 1973 war [pre-2020]. 20 Isrotel’s own timeline page, as read, carries no opening year, so no Isrotel or 1980-84 primary record resolves the conflict. 20 The sources opened do not establish that Isrotel is a subsidiary of River Island or of Lewis Trust Group; they establish that the same family controls both. 13, 1
Isrotel expansion in Israel after the ICJ opinion and ICC warrants. Globes reported on 12 January 2025 that Isrotel planned to open five new hotels in 2025 at an investment of NIS 1 billion: Gymnasia (145 rooms, Montefiore Street, Tel Aviv, February), Ayelet (147 rooms, Kibbutz Ayelet Hashachar in the Upper Galilee, March), Daroma (Mitzpe Ramon, May, alongside a 128-room hotel in the renovated Pundak Ramon), Kayma (44 suites, by the Dead Sea, July) and Dizengoff 99 (122 rooms, Tel Aviv, November). 21 Tophotel.news (24 January 2025) reports the same five-hotel plan, a group total of 28 properties by the end of 2025, and about 130 rooms for Dizengoff 99, which differs from the 122 rooms in Globes. 22 Isrotel’s own site lists an Ayala Hotel at Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar in the Upper Galilee, which appears to be the Ayelet property named in the announcements; the page does not give an opening date or state whether it is open. 23 The same Globes article says Isrotel would open seven more hotels in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Eilat and the Kinneret over five years. 21 Isrotel’s own “coming soon” page, read on 3 November 2026 and undated, lists a 130-room hotel in Jaffa (2026), a 250-room hotel at Zion Square, Jerusalem (2027), Leon Towers in Tel Aviv (235 rooms, 2027), a Basel Complex hotel in Tel Aviv (132 rooms, 2027) and a 200-room hotel at Eilat’s North Beach (2027). 24 The Zion Square hotel is described as built on two heritage buildings, each with four added storeys, joined by a glass-floored skybridge; the page extract does not state the site’s status relative to the 1967 lines. 24 No opening reports for the five 2025 hotels were opened, so whether they opened on the announced dates is unknown. 21
Aluma (Isrotel’s international chain). Hotel Management Network reported on 23 September 2024 that Aluma, “the international hotel chain operating under the Isrotel group”, bought the Savoy Hotel in Rome for about €68 million ($75 million), planned a €30 million renovation of the 130-room property and aimed to unveil the hotel under the Aluma brand in the third quarter of 2026. 25, 26 The same report quotes Isrotel chain manager Lior Raviv: “As a sister company of Isrotel, Aluma is driven by our approach to hospitality as a way of life.” 25, 26 Maariv of 17 September 2024 describes Aluma as a sister company of Isrotel, gives the Savoy as a 130-room hotel on Via Veneto in a preservation-listed building, names no seller or co-investor and states no ownership split. 27 Isrotel’s own Aluma page calls Aluma “Isrotel’s International Chain of Hotels” and lists Skylark (open), Anise and Adia in Athens, without mentioning Rome. 28 The legal entity that owns Aluma, its ownership percentages and any link to the Lewis family’s holding vehicle are not stated in any page opened, and no public evidence identified of a link between Aluma and LFH International. 25, 27, 28 Greek press reported that Isrotel launched Aluma in Athens with three hotels (Skylark, 199 rooms; Anise; Adia) and a Greek first-phase investment of about €70 million (9 February 2024). 29 Greek City Times (1 March 2024) and PowerGame (3 June 2024) report that the Dayan family (Dayan Family Office) is Isrotel’s partner in the Greek expansion, without stating an equity split. 30, 31 No opening report for the Savoy was found in a further search on 3 November 2026, so whether the Rome purchase closed and whether the hotel reopened in 2026 is unknown. 25
Directors linking the two groups. Benjamin Joseph Lewis has been a director of River Island Clothing Co. Limited since 20 April 2006, and the Companies House officers page shows him as an active director without stating a chief-executive title. 3 TheIndustry.fashion, in an article dated 11 February 2025, reported that he would return to the role of Chief Executive Officer (not chair) after Richard Bradbury left the executive chair role with immediate effect, and that Clive Lewis would resume his previous role as non-executive chair; no separate start date for Ben Lewis was stated. 32 FashionUnited UK reported the same change, saying he would resume the chief executive role he left in 2019 with immediate effect. 33 A third-party MarketScreener profile lists him as Chairman of Isrotel Ltd from 26 August 2020 and as a director of Lewis Trust Group Ltd, River Island Holdings Ltd, River Island Global Holdings Ltd and L51N Ltd. 34 TheIndustry.fashion states that Ben Lewis is the son of David Lewis, the older brother of founder Bernard Lewis. 35
Portfolio and fund exposure. Powerbase states that LTG Development Capital Ltd “prefers to invest in companies based in United Kingdom, United States, and Israel” and lists portfolio companies Dolls Kill, Global Fashion Group, Mint Velvet, The Hut Group, OrSense, KoolConnect Technologies and Tevet Process Control Technologies, with Tevet Process Control Technologies as an exit; the page does not state where each company is based and its figures are as of February 2020 [pre-2020]. 10 no public evidence identified of holdings in Israeli sovereign bonds, Israel Bonds or Israel-focused funds by River Island or Lewis Trust Group. 10
UK investments by the group. Lewis Trust Group took control of Mint Velvet in a deal reported at more than £100 million in March 2019, having bought a stake in 2015 [pre-2020]; the report also lists River Island and San Francisco-based Dolls Kill as group holdings and does not mention Israel. 8
Charitable trusts (not corporate acts). Powerbase lists grants by the Bernard Lewis Family Charitable Trust, whose trustees are Bernard Lewis, Leonard Lewis, Clive Lewis and Caroline Grainge, using Charity Commission accounts for 2008 to 2023, with recipients including Jewish Leadership Council, Community Security Trust, Henry Jackson Society and Jewish Care. 36 A separate Powerbase boycott page lists grants by that trust and the David and Ruth Lewis Family Charitable Trust to Israel-related organisations including Jerusalem Foundation (£632,131), Jewish National Fund (135,000, no currency stated), Friends of Yad Sarah UK (£13,911) and UK Friends of the Association for the Wellbeing of Israel’s Soldiers (£5,000), without dates, and the page’s characterisations are partisan. 37 No Charity Commission primary record was opened, so these figures are unverified secondary data. 37
Acquired Israeli subsidiaries (Acquired-Identity). No public evidence identified that River Island acquired or holds a controlling stake in any Israeli operating company; the only Israeli operating company in the Lewis family’s control found is Isrotel, whose ownership route to River Island or Lewis Trust Group was not established. 13, 10
Financing the state. No public evidence identified of River Island or Lewis Trust Group underwriting Israeli sovereign debt or war bonds, or lending to OHCHR-listed or Israeli defence companies. 10
UN settlement database. No source reviewed states that River Island, Lewis Trust Group, Isrotel or Aluma appears in the OHCHR settlement database; the database list itself could not be searched in this research. 10
Operational Presence & Market Activity
Physical footprint in Israel. No public evidence identified of River Island offices, warehouses, retail stores or franchise stores in Israel or the occupied territories; a further search for River Island stores, franchise or suppliers in Israel found no River Island result. 1
Middle East franchise (not Israel). Khaleej Times (26 November 2025) states that River Island Middle East has stores in the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar and that Kuwait-based Alshaya Group runs River Island and Debenhams, with no mention of Israel. 38 Gulf News (27 November 2025) reports River Island closing stores across the Middle East, naming the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar with discounts up to 75%, and does not mention Israel. 39 Wikipedia’s Alshaya Group article lists its area as the Middle East and North Africa, Turkey and Europe and does not mention Israel. 40
UK and Irish footprint. River Island closed 33 UK stores under a 2025 restructuring, returned to a reported pre-tax profit of £11.6 million for 2025 and plans new stores in the UK and Ireland 41; its Irish arm had 23 outlets at the end of 2024 7.
Employment and tax registration in Israel. No public evidence identified of River Island employees or Israeli tax registration. 41
Group-attributed (Isrotel). Wikipedia gives Isrotel about 4,500 employees (2022), most hotels in and around Eilat, 21 locations (2024) and a Tel Aviv headquarters, and does not mention hotels in the West Bank, Golan Heights or East Jerusalem. 19 Tophotel.news reports the group expected to reach 28 properties by the end of 2025. 22 A 2013 Canadian Jewish News article gave Isrotel as Israel’s second-largest chain with 17 hotels, more than 4,000 employees and about 87% Lewis family ownership [pre-2020]. 17 Globes in October 2021 said 13 of Isrotel’s then 20 hotels were in Eilat, the Dead Sea and the Negev. 15
Group-attributed (Aluma, outside Israel). Isrotel’s Aluma page lists Skylark (Athens, open), Anise and Adia as Aluma hotels, all in Athens, Greece, and the Rome Savoy purchase is reported by Hotel Management Network and Maariv; none of these locations is in Israel or the occupied territories. 28, 25, 27
Market positioning. No public evidence identified of River Island characterising Israel as a market in annual reports, investor presentations or press releases; the 2026 results coverage mentions only the UK and Ireland. 41
Settlement Nexus. No public evidence identified of River Island sales, listings or sourcing in West Bank settlements, East Jerusalem or the Golan Heights. 1 For Isrotel, Globes places a 2010 acquisition (Ganei Mivtachim, 196 rooms) at Ein Bokek on the southern basin of the Dead Sea and a 2021 deal at Migdal near Tiberias, and the sources opened do not state any West Bank, Golan or East Jerusalem location [pre-2020 for the 2010 item]. 16, 15 The 2025 expansion articles and the coming-soon page list hotels in Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Eilat, Mitzpe Ramon, the Dead Sea and the Upper Galilee and do not describe any of them as in a settlement. 21, 22, 24
Corporate Structure & Foundational Ties
Founding and incorporation. River Island began in 1948 when Bernard Lewis started selling fruit and vegetables at a Notting Hill market stall, became Chelsea Girl in 1965 and River Island in 1988, with its first shop outside Great Britain in Dublin in 1993; it was not founded in Israel. 1 The Jewish Chronicle says David Lewis co-founded the chain and opened its first womenswear store in Hackney in 1948. 18
Headquarters and domicile. River Island Clothing Co. Limited and River Island Clothing Limited list Chelsea House, West Gate, London W5 1DR as the correspondence address 6, 3. No public evidence identified of an Israeli headquarters, principal place of management, Israeli tax residency or Preferred Technology Enterprise status. 3
Israeli-Nexus Floor factors. Founded in Israel: not shown, the founding is documented in London. 1 Headquarters in Israel: not shown. 3 Israeli tax residency or PTE: no public evidence identified. 3 Beneficially owned or controlled by Israeli capital: no public evidence identified; the sources opened show a UK family-owned group whose family also controls the Israeli-listed Isrotel. 1, 13

Limited directors Kirsty Rowena Homer (since 1 July 2024), Benjamin Joseph Lewis (since 20 April 2006), Clive Robert Lewis (since 16 December 1996) and Vanessa Jane Lewis (since 3 December 2001). 3 Bernard Lewis resigned as a director on 28 February 2026 3 and died on 28 February 2026, 18 days after turning 100 35. Julian Harley Lewis resigned on 30 August 2012 and Simon Lewis on 26 September 2016 3. William Kernan served as director from 1 October 2019 to 19 January 2023 3, and Ben Lewis returned as CEO in February 2025 32, 33. Richard Bradbury, who had been chief executive until 2010 and rejoined in December 2022 as executive chair, left the executive chair role in February 2025 for personal reasons. 33
State and institutional linkages. No public evidence identified of state ownership, government board appointees, Israeli government contracts or critical-national-infrastructure designation for River Island. 3
Structural governance features. No public evidence identified of golden shares, founder shares or charter provisions tying River Island to the Israeli state. 6
Lender context. River Island’s 2025 restructuring secured a new £40 million revolving credit facility with Blue Coast and overdraft facilities with Barclays Bank plc. 7 Powerbase names Blue Coast Capital among Lewis family business interests; no Israel link was found in the sources opened. 37

Profit Repatriation & Economic Contribution
Revenue attribution. No public evidence identified of River Island disclosing revenue attributed to Israel; the 2026 results coverage reports a group pre-tax profit of £11.6 million for 2025 and a 2024 operating loss of £65.3 million without a country split. 41 The Irish operating company reported 2024 turnover of €46.8 million and an operating loss of €14.5 million. 7
Profit flows. The sources opened show the River Island chain owned by a UK family-controlled group and give no evidence of River Island profits flowing to Israel or of Israeli-generated River Island profits flowing out. 6, 1 Powerbase and a Tracking Power post state dividends go to L51N and then to LFH International; this is unverified and no primary filing was retrieved. 10, 12 A 2013 article said Isrotel reinvests all its profits, a policy set by David Lewis [pre-2020, current status unknown]. 17
Constructive notice (post-19 July 2024 and post-November 2024). The Lewis family sold an Isrotel stake on 29 June 2025 and Isrotel reported Q1 2025 revenue of NIS 368 million, so the family’s controlling interest in an Israeli operating company continued after both dates. 13 Isrotel announced a NIS 1 billion hotel-opening programme in Israel on 12 January 2025, and Aluma announced the Rome Savoy purchase on or about 17 to 23 September 2024, both after the ICJ advisory opinion of 19 July 2024. 21, 25, 27 no public evidence identified of any River Island statement on Israel after those dates. 41
Economic ecosystem role (Isrotel). A 2013 article described Isrotel as Israel’s second-largest hotel chain [pre-2020]. 17 Globes said in 2021 that most Isrotel hotels were outside Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and less hit by Covid than rivals Fattal and Dan. 15 A 2025 Globes article says the share sale was meant to show confidence in the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange during the war. 13 Globes’ 2011 obituary records that Eilat residents spoke of an era divided into “Before Lewis” and “After Lewis” [pre-2020]. 20
