Corporate Communications & Public Stance

No primary Puma statement addressing Palestinian civilian harm was identified in the targeted corporate searches 1. The company ended its Israel Football Association (IFA) sponsorship effective December 31, 2024, announced in December 2023, describing it as part of a “fewer-bigger-better” strategy rather than a response to BDS pressure 1. The older blanket claim of silence on Ukraine and racial equality is contradicted by Puma corporate disclosures; the verified examples are recorded in the addendum 2. Through spokesperson Kerstin Neuber (Senior Head of Communications), Puma stated: “PUMA does not support football teams in settlements nor does its Israeli distributor have branches in settlements” 3. The UN Special Rapporteur A/HRC/59/23 (Albanese 2025) specifically notes in its paragraph on the sports sector: “In the sports sector, sustained advocacy led Adidas, PUMA, and Erreà to end their sponsorship of the Israel Football Association” 4.

Operations in Occupied or Contested Territories

Puma operates in Israel through Al Srad Ltd. (operating as Factory 54), described by BDS as its exclusive Israeli licensee since 2020; another NGO report gives 2021, and the underlying contract was not retrieved 5, 6. Al Srad operates 110 retail stores in Israel (65 mono-brand, 45 multi-brand) 7. BDS alleges a Factory 54 outlet in Mamilla in territory it characterises as occupied; this is not verified evidence of a Puma-specific store, product presence or Puma-owned operation 5. Puma SE itself is NOT listed in the UN OHCHR Business and Human Rights Database of business enterprises involved in settlement activity 8. However, Delta Galil Industries Ltd. (Puma’s former Israeli licensee from 2015-2020) IS listed in the UN database for activities in West Bank settlements including Ma’ale Adumim, Pisgat Ze’ev, Ramot, and Barkan industrial zone 9, 10. The BDS Movement launched a #BoycottPuma campaign in 2018, citing Puma’s sponsorship of the Israel Football Association (IFA), which includes six football clubs located in illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank (Ma’ale Adumim, Ariel, Kiryat Arba, Givat Zeev, Bikat HaYarden, Oranit) 11, 12. The campaign claimed victory following Puma’s December 2023 non-renewal announcement 11.

Internal Governance, Content & Retail Policies

No public evidence identified regarding Puma HR actions, lawsuits, or termination decisions related to pro-Palestinian employee speech, political symbols, or union activity 13. No independent reports, academic studies, or regulatory inquiries have been identified regarding Puma content moderation related to the conflict. No public reports or regulatory actions have been identified regarding product labeling, sourcing, or categorization of products originating from occupied territories.

Brand Heritage & State Partnerships

Puma is a sportswear company founded in 1948; no military-origin branding was identified in the reviewed company materials 14, 15. Puma announced a kit sponsorship deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv FC starting the 2025/26 season 16. Puma also announced a five-year partnership with Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club in August 2021; renewal after the original term was not established 17. Bloomfield Stadium is the football venue; the basketball arrangement concerns a separate club and must not be assigned the football venue 16, 17. No evidence of state honors, government official hosting, or Brand Israel partnerships has been identified.

Lobbying, Advocacy, Financing & Logistics

No evidence has been found in German Bundestag Lobbying Register of Puma filings related to Israel or boycott legislation 13. No OpenSecrets records of Puma PAC contributions to pro-Israel political causes have been identified 13. No verifiable corporate donations, sponsorships, or financial support have been identified directed toward parastatal organizations, settlement groups, or military-welfare funds (FIDF, JNF/KKL, Lev Echad, Im Tirtzu, Regavim). No evidence has been identified of Puma corporate charitable donations to Gaza humanitarian organizations post-October 2023.

Corporate Structure & Primary Mission

Puma SE is a publicly traded German sportswear company listed on Frankfurt Stock Exchange; its corporate charter does not specify geopolitical objectives beyond standard commercial enterprise. Artémis S.A.S. (Pinault family) holds 28.7% of Puma SE, making it the largest shareholder 18. Anta Sports Products Ltd. (Chinese sportswear company) agreed in January 2026 to acquire a 29.06% stake from Artémis for €1.5 billion, expected to close end 2026 pending regulatory approval 18. Puma Israel Ltd. was established January 1, 2013 as a 100% owned subsidiary to “exercise full control of its business activities” 14. The 2024 Annual Report confirms Puma Sport Israel Ltd. was liquidated in 2024 15.

Executive & Leadership Footprint

Arne Freundt became CEO November 2022 and departed April 2025. Arthur Hoeld (former 26-year Adidas executive) became CEO July 2025 19. No Israel-specific controversies have been identified for either executive. No evidence has been identified of personal donations by Puma executives (Freindt, Hoeld) or controlling shareholders (Pinault family) to FIDF, JNF, Israeli settlement organizations, or military-welfare funds. No evidence has been identified of Puma board members holding positions in AIPAC, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, or other pro-Israel advocacy organizations. No evidence has been identified of Rudolf Dassler family foundations or charitable giving to Israeli entities.

Live verification addendum - 8 September 2026

PUMA’s Ukraine-related statements describe shelter, relocation, employment support and aid donations. Its December 2020 Black Lives Matter football-boot announcement with Kevin-Prince Boateng describes the #REFORM initiative. These establish public engagement elsewhere; no primary statement on Palestinian civilian harm was located in the bounded corporate search.20, 21, 22, 23

The IFA agreement expired on 31 December 2024 after non-renewal. Puma attributed the decision to commercial strategy; campaign sources attributed it to advocacy pressure. Neither account alone establishes motive. This expired national-federation relationship must be distinguished from later club agreements.24, 25, 26

The 2 May 2025 football announcement identifies Puma supply of apparel for the senior team, youth and staff, co-designed collections, Yossi Irani as its Israeli representative, and Factory 54 sales at Tel Aviv Port and Ramat Aviv. It does not publish legal signatories or payment allocation. Its numerical term is unresolved in the English page reviewed by the human reviewer.27

The original basketball announcement is dated 5 August 2021, describes five years and millions of shekels, and identifies El-Srad/Factory 54 as Puma Hoops importer. This is not a new 2025 contract; the reviewed announcement does not establish renewal after the original five-year term 28.

The 2020/2021 licence-date disagreement remains explicitly unresolved. Primary club evidence confirms Factory 54 representation by 2025 and importing by August 2021, but not a signed exclusive licence or Puma ownership of the licensee. The Factory 54 Mamilla allegation and former Delta Galil footprint do not establish current Puma-specific settlement retail.29, 6, 27, 30
