Target: Ancestry / Ancestry.com and controlled entities
Audit date: 8 October 2026
Domain: Military Forensics (Military)
Scope, identity and attribution boundary
Ancestry is a consumer family-history and genomics business. Its current public corporate-information page identifies Ancestry.com Operations, L.P., Ancestry.com DNA, LLC, Ancestry.com Operations Inc., Ancestry Ireland Unlimited Company and related product entities, and groups brands including Newspapers.com, Fold3, Archives, RootsWeb, Find a Grave, We Remember, AncestryDNA Plus, AncestryPreserve and iMemories under the Ancestry structure.1 Current corporate biographies identify Howard Hochhauser as President and CEO and list the board, including Chair Mark Thompson, Blackstone executives Sachin Bavishi and David Kestnbaum, GIC representative Alex Moskowitz, Gene Alston, Kelly Campbell, Jody Gerson, Tim Sullivan and Hochhauser.2, 3, 4
Blackstone-managed private-equity funds acquired control of Ancestry for $4.7 billion in December 2020; GIC retained a significant minority stake.5, 6 Blackstone’s other investments and partnerships are therefore treated as parent/investor context only unless evidence shows operational integration with Ancestry.
No current Ancestry public corporate page reviewed identified an Israeli contracting entity. Ancestry’s law-enforcement guide states that account data can be accessed by Ancestry.com Operations Inc. in the United States and Ancestry Ireland Unlimited Company in Ireland for legal-request purposes.1, 7 This does not establish where every technical workload is hosted, but it does provide the company’s stated legal access structure.
The 2026 OHCHR settlement-business database, the 2025 Special Rapporteur report A/HRC/59/23, PAX’s June 2024 arms-finance report and Al-Haq’s business-and-human-rights material were checked as authoritative/specialist screens.8, 9, 10, 11 Targeted searches did not identify Ancestry or a controlled Ancestry brand as a military supplier, settlement operator, defence prime, defence financier or occupied-territory infrastructure provider in those materials.
Direct Defence Contracting & Procurement
Ministry of Defence, IDF and security-body contracts
No public evidence identified of a contract, tender award, framework agreement or memorandum of understanding between Ancestry or a controlled Ancestry entity and the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Israel Defense Forces, Israel Police, Border Police, Israel Prison Service or another Israeli state-security body in the sources reviewed.8, 9, 10, 11
Defence trade-directory listings
No public evidence identified that Ancestry is listed as an Israeli defence exporter, defence manufacturer or military supplier in the authoritative and specialist materials reviewed.8, 9, 10
Official cooperation announcements
No public evidence identified of an Ancestry announcement describing defence cooperation, joint development or military procurement with an Israeli defence entity.1, 2, 4
Dual-Use Products & Tactical Variants
Ancestry’s identified product line is consumer genealogy, historical-record access and autosomal DNA testing. Ancestry states that its DNA product is an autosomal genealogy test used for ancestral origins and genetic-relative matching.12 Ancestry also owns military-history genealogy products: it acquired Forces War Records in 2021, describing it as a British military-genealogy specialist with historical regimental, medal, POW and casualty records.13 Historical military records are content about past service; the cited product description does not identify a tactical, mil-spec or defence-grade product.
No public evidence identified of an Ancestry product purpose-built for targeting, fire control, weapons integration, autonomous kinetic effects or another Military function.1, 13, 12
Ancestry’s current policy states that law enforcement may not use its services, including DNA tools, family trees or record collections, to investigate crimes or identify human remains; it requires valid legal process before considering disclosure of customer data.7, 14, 15 In its report titled January–December 2025, published on 27 February 2026, Ancestry reported zero valid DNA requests, nine valid non-DNA law-enforcement requests, disclosure in seven of those nine, zero valid requests from outside the United States and no national-security process as of 31 December 2025.16 The English report describes the DNA line as covering the calendar year, while a localized rendition specifies July–December; this inconsistent period wording limits reliance on an exact interval.16 The second half of 2024 likewise recorded zero valid DNA requests and no valid international requests.17 These figures concern general law-enforcement access and do not identify an Israeli military or security end-user.
[pre-2020] In 2019 Ancestry reported one search warrant seeking access to its DNA database; it challenged the warrant on jurisdictional grounds and did not provide customer data in response.18 Current policy and 2024-2025 reporting are the relevant ongoing evidence.7, 16, 17, 19, 15
No public evidence identified of export licences, end-user certificates or export-control reviews for Ancestry products supplied to Israeli military or security end-users.8, 10
Heavy Machinery, Construction & Infrastructure
Ancestry is not identified in the reviewed public materials as a manufacturer or supplier of heavy machinery, construction equipment or engineering services.1, 2 The 2026 OHCHR settlement database was reviewed for settlement-related business activity; targeted searches did not identify Ancestry or a controlled Ancestry brand.8
No public evidence identified of Ancestry equipment or services used to build, maintain or demolish settlements, the separation barrier, checkpoints, detention facilities, military bases or other occupied-territory infrastructure.8, 9, 11
No public evidence identified of direct, dealer-mediated or secondary-market supply of Ancestry equipment into such activity, because no relevant Ancestry equipment product was identified.1, 8
Supply Chain Integration with Defence Primes
Targeted searches for Ancestry with Elbit Systems, Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael and IMI/Elbit Land did not identify a verified component, subsystem, raw-material, manufacturing, integration, licensed-production or joint-development relationship.9, 10
No public evidence identified of Ancestry supplying optical systems, electronics, propulsion, structural materials, guidance, communications modules, armour materials or other military components to an Israeli defence prime.9, 10
Blackstone separately announced a 2024 majority investment in Israel-based Priority Software, which it described as mission-critical enterprise-resource-planning software.20 No source reviewed linked Ancestry to Priority Software, and the cited Blackstone release does not describe a purpose-built kinetic military product. This parent-portfolio relationship is therefore not evidence of Ancestry Military supply.
Logistical Sustainment & Base Services
No public evidence identified of Ancestry providing catering, transport, fuel, waste management, facilities maintenance, telecommunications or other sustainment services to Israeli military bases, training facilities, detention centres or security installations.8, 9, 10
No public evidence identified of Ancestry shipping, freight-forwarding or port-handling contracts for Israeli military cargo or arms shipments.8, 10
No public evidence identified of Ancestry logistical services in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Golan Heights or another occupied territory.8, 11
Munitions, Weapons Systems & Strategic Platforms
No public evidence identified that Ancestry manufactures, integrates, maintains or supplies small arms, artillery, armoured vehicles, tactical drones, warships, combat aircraft, missiles or other lethal systems.9, 10
No public evidence identified of Ancestry supplying ammunition, explosives, propellants, warhead components or munitions precursors to Israeli defence end-users.9, 10
No public evidence identified of an Ancestry role in Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow, Israeli combat aircraft, Merkava, naval platforms, ballistic-missile systems or associated guidance, radar, fire-control, propulsion or warhead subsystems.9, 10
Export Licensing, Regulatory & Legal History
No public evidence identified of a government decision granting, denying, suspending or revoking an export licence for an Ancestry product to an Israeli military or security end-user.8, 10
No public evidence identified of an arms-embargo, defence-export-control or sanctions enforcement action against Ancestry concerning Israel.8, 9, 10
No public evidence identified of litigation or judicial review concerning an Ancestry defence-supply relationship with Israel.8, 9, 11
Ancestry’s documented legal-access history concerns customer-data requests rather than defence exports. Its current guide requires valid legal process and its current privacy materials state that it does not voluntarily provide data to government or law-enforcement bodies.7, 14, 21
Civil Society Scrutiny & Documented Investigations
The specialist screens reviewed did not identify Ancestry as a company supplying arms to Israel, participating in a settlement-related business activity, or providing a purpose-built kinetic military system.8, 9, 10, 11 No organised boycott/divestment campaign specifically grounded in Ancestry’s defence-sector activity was identified in the targeted searches.
Parent/investor context requires separation from Ancestry itself. In December 2025 Blackstone announced a strategic credit partnership with Israel-based Phoenix Financial under which Phoenix could invest up to $5 billion across Blackstone credit strategies.22 Who Profits separately describes Phoenix as financing settlement expansion and providing services to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and Israel Police.23 No source reviewed connected Ancestry operationally to the Phoenix partnership or to Phoenix’s cited activities; the relationship is therefore indirect Blackstone context only.
A second indirect lead concerns Clarion Events. [pre-2020] Blackstone announced its acquisition of Clarion in July 2017 and described defence and security among Clarion’s event markets.24 On 6 October 2026 Informa announced an agreement to acquire Clarion from Blackstone and identified DSEI among the portfolio’s defence/security brands; its release states that completion is expected towards the end of Q4 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.25 No source reviewed identified Ancestry as operationally integrated with Clarion, DSEI or defence exhibitors, so this is not treated as an Ancestry defence relationship.
Controlling principals
Ancestry’s current board biographies show Blackstone directors Bavishi and Kestnbaum and GIC representative Moskowitz as investor-linked directors.2 Gene Alston’s Ancestry biography states that he previously served as a U.S. Naval Officer.2 Targeted searches did not identify an Israeli defence-board role, FIDF/reservist-fund donation, equity stake in an Israeli defence prime, or public military-channel act by the current Ancestry executives and directors reviewed that could be tied to Ancestry under the requested rubric.
Constructive-notice period
No verified Ancestry military, settlement or defence-prime relationship was identified for the period after 19 July 2024 or after November 2024 in the reviewed sources.16, 17, 8, 9, 10 Because no qualifying relationship was established, there is no public activity in this record to test for continuation after those dates.
Evidence gaps
Ancestry is privately held, so current public disclosure of subsidiaries, contracts and customers is more limited than for a listed issuer.5, 6 The 2026 OHCHR database is also a bounded review rather than a list of every company with any Israel-related activity.8 These limitations mean the negative findings above are statements about publicly identified evidence as of 8 October 2026, not proof that no undisclosed relationship could exist.
Additive control and evidence-limit clarification
Blackstone-managed funds’ control of Ancestry and Blackstone representatives on its current board are documented relationships independent of whether Ancestry is a party to a particular defence contract.2, 6 The reviewed sources do not trace all Ancestry-to-fund distributions or establish complete operational and capital independence among Ancestry, its owning funds and the manager.2, 6 Earlier descriptions of an activity as parent or portfolio context identify the entity performing it; those labels do not settle the undisclosed integration or fund-flow questions.
The Phoenix announcement describes Phoenix investing into Blackstone credit strategies, not an evidenced reverse flow from Ancestry or Blackstone to Phoenix’s settlement or security activities.22 The disclosed direction and absence of traced Ancestry participation are distinct findings. The current Clarion agreement remains pending, and no Ancestry role in an exhibited weapons system was identified.25
