Digital Audit: Armani Group

Audit Phase: Digital (Digital / Technology Forensics) Subject Entity: Giorgio Armani S.p.A. / Armani Group (privately held, Milan, Italy) Audit Date: June 2026 Evidence Base: Published corporate and vendor disclosures, vendor press releases, trade and technology press, court filings, and civil-society/boycott-campaign material. All factual claims are drawn from publicly available sources cited in the End Notes.

Scope and directionality note: Digital assesses the digital/technology nexus to Israel. The serious case is the provision of surveillance, digital, data, or cyber technology to the Israeli state, military, or security services. The reverse direction - Armani procuring technology from Israeli-origin vendors, or an Israeli distributor of Armani goods using Israeli retail technology - is a customer/third-party relationship and is recorded explicitly as such, weighted far lower than provision. No transitive guilt is imputed: an Israeli vendor’s other clients, its founders’ backgrounds, or a licensee’s separate activities are not attributed to Armani. US/Canadian/Franco-Italian-entity relationships (e.g. XY Retail, ModiFace, EssilorLuxottica) are not Israeli-origin and are noted only for completeness or directional clarity.

Enterprise Technology Stack & Vendor Relationships

Order Management & Unified Commerce (Direction: Armani as customer)

In January 2025, the Armani Group announced the rollout of XY Retail’s XY Order Management System (XY OMS) across its global e-commerce operations, spanning 40+ countries, with support for 50+ currencies and regional tax compliance in 45+ countries.12 XY Retail is a unified-commerce/POS platform vendor founded in 2018 and headquartered in New York and Milan; the deployment was described as microservices-based, API-first, and cloud-native, completed in under eight months, and Armani internalised its e-commerce operations through it.13 Susan Jeffers, CEO of XY Retail, was quoted on the partnership.1 XY Retail is a US/Italy-headquartered vendor; this is not an Israeli-origin vendor relationship and is recorded for completeness. No public evidence was identified that the XY OMS deployment mandated or routed data through Israeli-origin technology or Israeli data centres.

E-Commerce Fraud Prevention (Israeli-origin vendor - UNCONFIRMED)

A prior research cycle raised the question of whether Armani is a named merchant customer of Riskified (NYSE: RSKD), an Israeli-founded e-commerce fraud-prevention company headquartered in Tel Aviv.4 This audit could not confirm the relationship from any primary source. Riskified’s own luxury-fashion client references and public disclosures name other merchants (e.g. Ssense, Farfetch, Vestiaire Collective) and report “Fashion & Luxury Goods” as a growth vertical, but do not name Armani in the public 2024 results material reviewed.45 The claimed appearance of “Armani” in a Riskified earnings transcript was not verifiable against the SEC-filed Q4 2024 results exhibit.6 If this direction (Armani as customer of an Israeli-origin vendor) were confirmed it would be a procurement/inbound relationship; as of this audit it is unconfirmed and not recorded as a finding.

Eyewear Licensing & Manufacturing Supply Chain (indirect, via licensee)

Armani eyewear (Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, EA7, A|X Armani Exchange) is manufactured and distributed under a long-standing licence with EssilorLuxottica, the Franco-Italian optical conglomerate; the licence (effective 2013) was renewed in 2022 for 15 years from 1 January 2023.78 EssilorLuxottica separately owns Shamir Optical Industry, an Israeli lens manufacturer headquartered at Kibbutz Shamir in the Upper Galilee; EssilorLuxottica (and predecessor Essilor) held 50% from 2011 and acquired the remaining 50% from Kibbutz Shamir effective 1 August 2022, with development and manufacturing remaining at Kibbutz Shamir.910 This produces an indirect adjacency - Armani → EssilorLuxottica → Shamir (Israel) - at the licensee level. The relationship is between EssilorLuxottica and Shamir, not between Armani and Shamir directly, and no public evidence was identified that Shamir-produced components specifically appear in Armani-branded eyewear. Recorded as an indirect, licensee-level adjacency, not a direct Armani relationship.

Discarded / Corrected Prior Claims

No public evidence was identified linking Armani to the Israeli analytics firm Anodot (a prior-cycle assertion); the claim is treated as unverified and not carried forward. The prior characterisation of ModiFace as Israeli-origin is incorrect: ModiFace is a Canadian company, founded in Toronto (a University of Toronto spin-off) and acquired 100% by L’Oréal in March 2018.1112 Armani beauty technology using ModiFace is not Israeli-origin (see AI section).

Surveillance, Biometrics & Retail Technology

Virtual Try-On / Facial-Geometry Collection (Direction: Armani as operator; non-Israeli technology)

Armani operates a virtual “Try-It-On” beauty tool that, per a filed class-action complaint, scans uploaded photos and live video to detect facial features/landmarks and compute a facial-geometry “face template.”1314 The underlying augmented-reality technology is reported to be ModiFace - a Canadian/L’Oréal subsidiary, not Israeli-origin.1311 The associated litigation is recorded in the Civil Society section. Armani Beauty also deploys the META PROFILER, a handheld in-store skin-analysis device developed with L’Oréal whose AI was trained on roughly 100,000 skin samples, placed on four facial zones to profile skin metrics.1516 No public evidence was identified that either tool uses Israeli-origin biometric or facial-recognition technology.

Israeli-Origin Surveillance / Biometric Vendors (direct to Armani)

No public evidence identified that Armani has deployed facial-recognition, biometric, gait-analysis, or behavioural-analytics technology of Israeli origin (e.g. Oosto/AnyVision, BriefCam, Corsight, Trigo) within its own retail or digital estate.

Israeli Retail Distributor’s In-Store Technology (third-party; not Armani’s stack)

Armani-branded goods are distributed in Israel by Factory 54 (Irani Corp), Israel’s principal multi-brand luxury retailer, which carries Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani among 150+ brands.1718 Factory 54 has publicly deployed Nexite’s “Connected Retail” platform and battery-free NanoBT IoT merchandise tags; Nexite is an Israeli company headquartered in Tel Aviv (founded 2017).171920 This is a relationship between the Israeli distributor and an Israeli retail-tech vendor - not between Armani Group and Nexite, and not a provision of technology by Armani. Recorded as a third-party/distributor relationship, directionally inbound at most and not attributable to Armani Group.

Predictive Analytics, Workforce Monitoring & Social-Media Surveillance

No public evidence identified of Armani using Israeli-origin predictive-analytics, sentiment-analysis, social-media-monitoring, or workforce-surveillance tools.

Cloud Infrastructure, Data Residency & Sovereign Cloud Participation

Cloud Posture & Data Centres in Israel

No public evidence was identified that Armani Group operates, leases, or co-locates data-centre infrastructure within Israel. Armani’s disclosed e-commerce platform (XY OMS) is described as cloud-native across 40+ countries, but the specific hyperscaler(s) and regional data-residency routing are not publicly disclosed; no public evidence was identified that Armani routes workloads through Israeli cloud regions.13

Project Nimbus & Israeli State Cloud Infrastructure

Not applicable. Project Nimbus is the Israeli-government cloud contract awarded to Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services; Armani is neither a participant nor a sub-provider. No public evidence was identified of Armani involvement in any Israeli state-backed digital-infrastructure programme.

Data-Sovereignty or Resilience Services to Israeli State Institutions

No public evidence identified. Armani does not operate as a technology or cloud-service provider to any state body, Israeli or otherwise.

Israeli-Store Customer Data Routing

Armani maintains retail presence in Israel, and customer transaction data from Israeli points of sale is presumed to flow through its global commerce platform; the jurisdictional routing of that data and whether it transits Israeli infrastructure is not established by public evidence and is recorded as an unresolved line of inquiry, not a finding.

Defence, Intelligence & Security Sector Technology Relationships

Military & Intelligence Contracts

No public evidence was identified of any contract, partnership, or service agreement between Armani Group and the Israeli Ministry of Defence, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), or Israeli intelligence agencies (including Unit 8200-linked commercial entities). Armani is a luxury fashion, beauty, and lifestyle business and does not publicly operate in the defence-technology or security-services sector.

Provision of Technology / Data to the Israeli State or Military

No public evidence was identified of Armani providing surveillance technology, data, software, cloud capacity, or digital services to the Israeli state, military, or security services. This is the directionally serious Digital case, and no qualifying evidence of it was found. No public evidence identified.

Dual-Use Technology Provision

No public evidence identified of Armani commercial technology being reported or confirmed as deployed for military, intelligence, or law-enforcement surveillance applications in Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Unit 8200 / Israeli Intelligence Ecosystem Ties

No public evidence identified of any Armani vendor relationship with a company founded by, led by, or operationally connected to Unit 8200 or other Israeli intelligence units. (A prior-cycle assertion of such ties to Shamir Optical, sourced to unrelated SEC filings, was unsubstantiated and is not carried forward.)

Offensive Cyber Capability

No public evidence identified. Armani does not develop, license, or sell offensive cyber capability.

AI, Algorithmic & Autonomous Systems

AI/ML Provision to Israeli State Bodies

No public evidence identified. No public evidence was identified of Armani providing AI capability, model access, training-dataset access, or inference services to any Israeli state, military, or security body.

Internal / Customer-Facing AI Tooling (non-Israeli origin)

Armani’s documented consumer AI tooling - the ModiFace-powered virtual “Try-It-On” and the L’Oréal-developed META PROFILER skin-analysis device - is sourced from Canadian (ModiFace/L’Oréal) and Franco-French entities, not Israeli-origin vendors.13111516 No public evidence was identified of any Israeli-origin AI vendor embedded in Armani’s stack; the undisclosed full vendor list means secondary embedding within managed services cannot be positively excluded, but no such instance was identified.

Model-Development Datasets Involving Israeli Population Data

No public evidence was identified of Armani contributing to, commissioning, or benefiting from AI model development involving Israeli population datasets.

Autonomous Systems & Lethality

No public evidence identified. The development or deployment of autonomous lethal systems is not within Armani’s business domain.

Technology Ecosystem & R&D Footprint

Israeli R&D Facilities

No public evidence was identified that Armani Group operates any R&D facility, engineering office, innovation lab, or accelerator programme within Israel. Armani is a brand-and-design-led luxury group whose technology capability is accessed primarily through licensing and vendor relationships rather than internal digital R&D.

Acquisitions & Investments in Israeli Technology Companies

No public evidence was identified of Armani Group acquiring, or taking a corporate-venture stake in, any Israeli technology company. The Israeli-adjacent entities identified in this audit (Shamir, via licensee EssilorLuxottica; Nexite, via distributor Factory 54) are not Armani investments or relationships. No public evidence identified of an Israeli-registered Armani technology subsidiary.

Patents & IP Co-Development with Israeli Institutions

No public evidence was identified of patent portfolios, licensing, or co-development arrangements between Armani Group and Israeli-domiciled entities or research institutions (Technion, Hebrew University, Weizmann Institute).

Supplier Code of Conduct - Technology Supply-Chain Provisions

No public evidence was identified that Armani Group publishes a technology-supply-chain due-diligence framework specific to the national origin or geopolitical exposure of software vendors, digital-infrastructure providers, or data processors.

Civil Society Scrutiny & Regulatory History

Biometric Privacy Litigation (United States)

Armani was named in Lipscomb v. Giorgio Armani Corporation (Case No. 1:22-cv-01039, filed February 2022, U.S. District Court in Illinois), a putative class action under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) alleging that the “Try-It-On” tool captured users’ facial-geometry biometric identifiers without the disclosures and written consent BIPA requires.1314 In September 2023 the parties reported reaching a settlement via a binding term sheet, with final terms not publicly disclosed.14 This matter concerns US biometric-privacy compliance for a consumer beauty tool (ModiFace/Canadian technology) and has no Israel nexus.

NGO & Academic Scrutiny - Technology Supply Chain

No public evidence was identified of an NGO investigation, academic study, or UN report addressing Armani’s technology relationships with the Israeli state, Israeli defence entities, or Israeli-origin vendors.

BDS Campaigns

Armani-branded products - particularly Giorgio Armani Beauty and Giorgio Armani fragrances - appear on consumer-facing boycott lists, but the documented grounds relate to the brands’ licensing partnership with L’Oréal and L’Oréal’s Israel ties, not to any Armani-specific technology procurement, software licensing, or digital-infrastructure provision.2122 No public evidence was identified of a BDS or NGO campaign specifically targeting Armani’s technology relationships.

Data Protection & Regulatory Authorities

No public evidence was identified of a GDPR enforcement action or fine by the Italian Garante or any EU data-protection authority specifically against Armani Group, nor of any export-control or sanctions-body action relating to Armani technology sales, services, or data transfers to Israeli state entities. No public evidence identified.
